What are your first thoughts when seeing this pic of SSK & Lady Ruth? Do you think “Damn we haven’t come that far as nation” when you look at Serowe in the background? After all this was taken in the 60s… Or do you go? “That’s right, Batswana gave the world its first Interracial presidential couple”. Again, let’s not forget that this all happened in the sixties, back when global prejudice was primarily based on race more than anything, the Civil right movement was in full swing in the US with Malcolm X and Martin Luther King at the forefront of it all, not to mention that our dear neighbors to the South were generally isolated to the world outside because of a sinister ideology that we’ve all come to know as Apartheid.
